Does having a girlfriend (girl-friend) have a bad effect on society?

Taking a girlfriend is forbidden in Islamic law, and the legal texts have indicated its prohibition due to the great harms that result from it, such as committing adultery, mixing lineages, and the disintegration of families. Allah has commanded lowering the gaze and guarding one's chastity, and has forbidden ostentatious display and softening one's speech. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade a man from being alone with a non-mahram woman. All of this is to block the means leading to adultery.
