Must a father inform the mother of the whereabouts of their son whose fate is unknown, and is expiation due from him if the child died as a result of his neglect?

The mother must be informed of her child's whereabouts, and if it becomes clear that the child died because of your placement of him in that location, then you are liable for blood money (Diyyah) and expiation (Kaffarah).
