Is a young man's marriage to a girl whose father refused to marry her to him considered disobedience to him?

It is not permissible to marry a woman without the permission of her guardian, even if he is a disbeliever, for the Prophet said: "Any woman who marries without the permission of her guardian, her marriage is invalid."

It is necessary to try to convince the father to agree to the marriage. If he does not agree, it is better to look for someone else, and perhaps there is good in that.

The guardian does not have the right to refuse the marriage of a suitable girl. If the guardian refuses without a legitimate reason, the girl has the right to refer her case to the Sharia judge to marry her, and this is not considered disobedience.

These rulings apply if the guardian is a Muslim. However, if he is a person of the Book, he has a different ruling.
