Who inherits a deceased wife who has no relatives except the sons and daughters of her deceased brothers and sisters?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the deceased woman has no heirs other than those mentioned, then her four nephews (sons of her brother) inherit the entire estate equally, because they are 'asabah (agnatic heirs), and there are no Ashab al-Furud (legal sharers) with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give the prescribed shares to those who are entitled to them, and whatever remains is for the closest male heir." As for the children of her sisters, both male and female, as well as her nieces (daughters of her brother), they do not inherit, because they are neither among the Ashab al-Furud nor the 'Asabah.
