Is the formula for prayer upon the Prophet, "O Allah, bless my beloved Muhammad and the family of my beloved Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim the Close Friend and the family of Ibrahim the Close Friend, and bestow Your grace upon my beloved Muhammad and the family of my beloved Muhammad, as You bestowed Your grace upon Ibrahim the Close Friend and the family of Ibrahim the Close Friend, in all the worlds, indeed You are Praiseworthy and Glorious," valid or an innovation, with the addition of the words (my beloved) and (the Close Friend)?

The prayer is valid, as you have performed the obligatory amount of prayers upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). However, the prescribed wording for praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) does not include the terms "my beloved" (حبيبي) or "the intimate friend" (الخليل). The Prophet (peace be upon him) guided the Companions to the prescribed formula when they asked him, "How should we pray upon you?" as narrated in the hadith (definition) of Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari. We advise adherence to the prescribed wording reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him), and consistently using the mentioned formula in every prayer might lead to innovation (bid'ah).
