One should frequently supplicate for the heart to remain steadfast in religion. Studying medicine is important, but preferring it over Islamic studies stems from a worldly perspective. The focus should be on the suitor's religiosity and character, and one should inquire about his situation. If it is satisfactory, then accept him after performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance).
