Is it permissible for a husband to favor one of his wives in housing on the pretext that she has more children?

Justice between wives is obligatory regarding overnight stays, without dispute. As for maintenance, housing, and gifts, the preponderant opinion is that a man is not at fault for preferring one wife over another, as long as he fulfills his obligations to each of them. So, if the apartment allocated to a wife is suitable for her circumstances, there is no harm in preferring the other with a better dwelling. However, if it is not suitable, she has the right to demand housing that suits her, within the husband's means, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "Lodge them where you dwell, according to your means."
