What is the legitimate housing that a husband must provide for his two wives who live with him in one house with a shared kitchen? A wife has the right to a suitable independent dwelling, meaning a part of a house separated with its own facilities. If she does not want to live with her co-wife or her husband's family, a separate house with its own facilities and a private lock must be provided for her. If the husband is unable to provide an private dwelling, some scholars have held that the wife has the right to annul the marriage. Giving the wife the choice between remaining in a shared dwelling or separation is not considered harm or undue restriction that is forbidden, and the husband is excused in this.
