Is saying, "And on that night I had intercourse with my wife," considered a disclosure of marital secrets, and what is the expiation for that if it is?

The husband's mention of conjugal relations is not considered a forbidden disclosure of marital secrets. However, it is disliked to mention it unnecessarily, because the basic principle in this matter is the prohibition of disclosing details of intimacy and related words and actions between the spouses. Al-Nawawi said: "In this Hadith, there is a prohibition for a man to disclose what transpires between him and his wife concerning intimate matters and to describe their details, and what occurs from the wife in terms of words or actions, and so forth."

As for merely mentioning intercourse, if there is no benefit or need in it, it is disliked because it is contrary to decorum. However, if there is a need or benefit in mentioning it – such as denying the husband's aversion or the wife's claim of his inability – then there is no dislike in it.

Similarly, a woman is like a man in the prohibition of disclosing secrets related to intercourse. And as long as there is a lesson or admonition in mentioning intercourse, there is no dislike in mentioning it.
