Is it permissible for a son to refuse to give his father all the money he earns, while agreeing to support him, given the circumstances mentioned of the father's squandering of money, his failure to spend adequately on the family, and his causing the accumulation of debts?

It is obligatory for children to financially support their poor father who is unable to earn a living, provided they possess wealth exceeding their basic needs. It is not obligatory for children to give their father everything they earn; rather, they should spend on him what he needs in a reasonable manner. It is not permissible to assist him in smoking, and he must be advised to repent. The mother is not obligated to financially support the father, and what she earns is her right. The father's actions of insulting and hitting the mother are an injustice, and he must be gently advised and reminded of Allah, while continuing to show him dutifulness and obedience in what is right.
