What is the "imminent torment" mentioned in His, the Almighty’s, saying: "Indeed, We have warned you of an imminent torment"?

The torment mentioned in the verse: "Indeed, We have warned you of a near torment" (An-Naba 78:40) is the torment of the Hereafter. The proof for this is Allah Almighty's statement in the same verse: "the Day when a man will look at what his hands have put forth, and the disbeliever will say, 'Oh, I wish that I were dust!'" (An-Naba 78:40). This can only occur on the Day of Resurrection. It is described as "near" due to the certainty of its occurrence or its proximity in relation to Allah Almighty.
