What should I do about the feeling of choking from food stuck in my throat while fasting?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
If a fasting person finds food or drink in their throat, their fast is not broken unless it reaches a point where they can expel it. If they can expel it but then deliberately swallow it, their fast is broken. As for intentionally inducing vomiting, it breaks the fast and is not permissible during an obligatory fast unless there is a necessity where harm is feared, in which case breaking the fast is permissible and making up the day is obligatory. If one induces vomiting but nothing comes out into the mouth, there is no consequence upon them.
