To what extent is Al-Buhuti's statement true that the dead see the deeds of the living, know their circumstances, and are affected by them? And is 'Aisha's veiling from 'Umar after his burial based on that?

The answer

Whoever dies transitions to the world of the (interim world), and nothing is known about their family except what has been revealed through divine revelation. It has been reported that the deceased knows who visits them if they knew them in this world, finds comfort in their loved ones, and learns about their family's news by asking those who die after them. There is no conclusive evidence from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the deceased seeing the living, but there are narrations from some Companions to that effect.
