What is the ruling on working as a restaurant manager that serves dishes mixed with alcohol before they are cooked, with the intention of gradually eliminating these dishes, and is it permissible to deal with the alcohol itself (buying it and touching it)?
The Fatwa at our institution is that the Hadd (prescribed punishment) for drinking alcohol is not obligatory if the alcohol is cooked until its essence is gone. However, this does not negate the prohibition of food cooked with it. Accordingly, it is forbidden to continue in this line of work or to apply for it from the outset. It is also forbidden to buy or transport alcohol, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Allah has cursed alcohol, its drinker, its pourer, its seller, its buyer, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, its carrier, and the one to whom it is carried."
