What is the ruling on some young people affiliated with the Salafi da'wah accusing others of being Kharijites because they believe that ruling by man-made laws constitutes major disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam? And does one who slanders rehabilitate himself? And what is the ruling on accusing members of the committee of being takfiris?

The Khawarij are a misguided sect that declares a Muslim who commits a major sin to be an infidel, slanders the Companions, and denies the vision of Allah and the punishment of stoning. Anyone who adopts their belief in declaring a major sinner an infidel or rebelling against the Imam is a Khariji.

However, someone who considers the application of man-made laws as a greater act of disbelief is not necessarily a Khariji. The view that those who rule by such laws are infidels, without deeming it permissible or preferring it over Sharia (definition), is a matter of scholarly disagreement. Furthermore, accusing the members of the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta of being Khawarij is a grave repudiation and an injustice to knowledge and its people.

Young people should be advised and warned against falling into criticizing scholars. They should seek knowledge from trustworthy scholars known for their knowledge and righteousness, and avoid those who disparage scholars. A person's self-justification is not acceptable, for Allah knows best who is truly pious.
