What is the ruling on one who prays so it may be said (that he is among those who pray)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Acts of worship are not accepted unless performed with sincerity towards Allah Almighty, which is a pillar for the acceptance of good deeds. Allah Almighty says: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion." Ostentation (riya') invalidates deeds, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, narrating from his Lord: "I am the One Who is most in no need of partners. Whoever performs a deed in which he associates another with Me, I will abandon him and his shirk (association)." Pure ostentation is when one intends to show off to creation for a worldly purpose. Such a deed is null and void, and its doer deserves Allah's wrath.
