What is the ruling on publishing other people's personal belongings without their permission?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to reveal a secret if its owner entrusted it, or if its disclosure would cause harm or scandal to his Muslim brother who is covered by the veil of Allah. However, it is permissible to disclose it if doing so results in a legitimate benefit and advantage for its owner or for people, and its owner did not stipulate its concealment. The one who does so may even be rewarded.
