Is it permissible to reveal a secret or a conversation that I swore by Allah not to disclose, if another person forces or threatens me to do so?

Disclosing a secret is prohibited because it harms the owner of the secret. The proof for this is the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If a man narrates a hadith, then turns around, it is a trust."

However, disclosing a secret is permissible in three cases:

1. If its concealment was not committed to and there is an overriding benefit in disclosing it, as Bilal did with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

2. Using allusive language (ma'areed) in speech, which is to imply one thing while meaning another, because it suffices to avoid lying.

3. If there is a severe threat causing harm to the one to whom the secret was disclosed, provided that its disclosure does not result in physical harm to another. It is not permissible to inflict harm with harm, and "Indeed, Allah has pardoned my Ummah for their mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are coerced into."
