Is it permissible to pay a sum of money to someone to perform a task that is not part of their job duties in order to save time and effort?

If providing the service is among a person's duties, then it is not permissible for him to take payment for it. However, if it is not among his duties, then it is permissible to give him a wage for a known and permissible task, as a way to save time and effort, and this falls under the category of hiring (Ijara). But, it is not permissible to give payment for mere status (Jah) or intercession (Shafa'ah); for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever intercedes for his brother with an intercession and then he is given a gift for it and accepts it, he has approached a great door of Riba (usury)."
