Is communion without seeking forgiveness sufficient in cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder that lead to thoughts such as, "Why is God doing this to me?" or imagining that "God is beneath me" (I seek refuge in Allah)? And are cheating in exams and sins committed in private considered disbelief (kufr)?

Whoever knows that they are afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) must turn away from thinking that they have apostatized. Sins committed in private and cheating are not considered apostasy, and disbelief only occurs when a definite act of disbelief is committed. The scholars have stated that whoever utters words that could be interpreted as apostasy or otherwise, does not become a disbeliever thereby, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Ward off the prescribed punishments from the Muslims as much as you can. If you find a way out for a Muslim, then let him go, for it is better for the Imam to err in forgiveness than to err in punishment." Supplication (du'a) is prescribed, whether accompanied by seeking forgiveness (istighfar) or not.
