Filial piety is obligatory even if parents mistreat their children, and they must be treated with kindness. However, obeying them in polytheism is not permissible. Disrespecting parents is a deliberate act of harm towards them, so one must be cautious of any action that harms a parent and advise them gently. If a father harms or embarrasses his son, the son must be patient and accompany him with kindness, due to the great right the father has. As for a heartfelt dislike of the father, there is no blame for it because it is not within one's control.
