Is it true that Satan invented music?

If the intent is that Satan himself manufactured musical instruments, there is no evidence for that. However, if the intent is that he whispered to his followers to make and embellish them, then this is correct, because they divert people from obeying Allah, and this is the implication of His saying, the Most High: "And I will surely lead them astray and surely inspire them with false hopes." Al-Qurtubi and others interpreted "your voice" in His saying, the Most High: "And incite [to disobedience] whoever you can among them with your voice," as referring to singing, wind instruments (mazameer), and everything that calls to disobedience of Allah.
