Designs that are prohibited from being copied fall under copyright and innovation rights, which are protected rights. Therefore, it is not permissible to infringe upon them by copying or selling if this has been forbidden. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about the ruling on copying a tape marked "copyright reserved," and he replied: "If the copying is for the purpose of trade, then it is not permissible." Sheikh Al-Bouti mentioned that there is a difference between the innovation of a book and its ownership. Whoever buys a book owns its physical copy, but the right of innovation remains with the author. Therefore, duplicating books or tapes is considered an infringement of the author's right.
