Is it true that urinating in one's place of bathing is forbidden?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Urination in the bathing area is disliked, due to the hadith: "None of you should urinate in his bathing place, for most of the waswas (whispers/doubts) come from it." The jurists have agreed that the reason for this prohibition is the fear that the urine might splash onto the person bathing, causing him to experience waswas. However, if the bathing area has drainage, or if its floor is solid, and one urinates and then removes the traces of urine with water, then there is no harm or dislike, as the reason for the prohibition no longer exists.
