What is the ruling on one who has intercourse with a female donkey?

Having intercourse with animals (bestiality) is forbidden and abhorrent. Scholars have reached a consensus on its prohibition based on Allah Almighty's saying: "And do not approach immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed." The perpetrator of this sin must offer sincere repentance and conceal their act, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever is afflicted with any of these abominable acts, let him conceal it with the concealment of Allah, Exalted and Glorified be He." Scholars have differed regarding its punishment. Some have held that both the perpetrator and the animal should be killed. Others have held that the prescribed punishment (flogging or stoning) should be applied to him. Most, however, have inclined towards discretionary punishment (ta'zir) based on the ruler's judgment.
