What is the ruling on saying: "My Lord is in heaven, and you are on earth" when requesting a need from a person of status?

This phrase is reprehensible, for Allah alone is in charge of command and governance. The statement "Allah is in the heavens and you are on Earth" is an ugly equalization and reliance on a creature. It is not permissible to say "I have relied upon Allah and then upon you," because reliance (tawakkul) is a spiritual act exclusive to Allah, and it does not accept "then." It is obligatory to close this door to prevent falling into polytheistic expressions, just as it was forbidden to say "whatever Allah wills and you will," and the correct form is "whatever Allah wills and then you will." These expressions fall under minor shirk, and the one who utters them must be repudiated.
