Does seclusion with one's wife behind closed doors without intercourse constitute a valid seclusion that necessitates the waiting period (iddah)? Does regaining one's spouse (raj'ah) depend on the expiration of the waiting period? Is intercourse that occurred during apostasy due to obsessive-compulsive disorder considered unlawful fornication? Is repentance sufficient for someone who doubts the time of their apostasy? Does apostasy apply to a person with OCD who apostatized inadvertently and then recanted?

If a valid khalwa (private seclusion) occurs between spouses, such that intercourse is customarily possible, this seclusion is considered equivalent to consummation ( dukhūl ), and consequently, the ʿiddah (waiting period) becomes incumbent, according to the majority of scholars. If one of the spouses apostatizes after this khalwa, they are separated until the ʿiddah concludes. If the apostate returns to Islam during the ʿiddah, the marriage remains valid and does not require renewal, according to the more preponderant opinion. Disbelief does not occur merely by waswasah (whispers/obsessive thoughts) as long as the person dislikes them. The duty is to completely disregard waswasah in all its details, seek Allah's help, and frequently supplicate to be rid of them.
