Is it obligatory to go to nearby mosques for prayer, or is it permissible to suffice with the congregational prayers held inside the hospital?

One who is unable to go to the mosque, such as a guard or a sick person, is not obligated to pray in the mosque. Rather, he should pray in his location with any available congregation. As for one who is able to go to the mosque, it is obligatory upon him to do so, based on the Prophet's saying: "Whoever hears the call [to prayer] and does not come, there is no prayer for him except for one with an excuse." The excuses were explained as fear or illness.
