Drugs are an intoxicating substance, forbidden because they impair the intellect. Scholars differ regarding their ritual impurity (najāsa): The majority of scholars hold them to be pure if solid, like hashish, and impure if liquid, like alcohol, which is the preferred view. Some scholars, like Ibn Taymiyyah, hold that solid intoxicants are impure.
