What is the ruling on paying money for a famous brand like KFC?

It is permissible to sell a brand or a trade name, because it is an intangible right that has value. The resolution of the Islamic Fiqh Academy No. 43 (5/5) stipulates that a trade name and a trademark are private rights of their owners and have a recognized financial value Islamically. It is permissible to dispose of them and transfer them for financial compensation, provided that there is no gharar (uncertainty), tadlis (deception), or cheating.
