What is the ruling on placing private labels on products, where the manufacturer produces the product and places the customer's name as a brand for it?
There is no objection to a company or factory manufacturing a product under the name of its client and placing the client's trade name on it instead of the factory's name, as long as there is no deception or fraud, and it does not mislead the client into believing that they manufactured the product themselves. This is based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "The one who pretends to have been given what he has not been given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood." It is permissible for the manufacturer to give their trademark to another, either for a fee or for free, provided that there is no deception or fraud involved. The trade name, business address, and trademark are private rights of their owners and have considerable financial value in Islamic law. It is permissible to dispose of them for financial compensation if uncertainty (gharar), deception, and fraud are absent.
