What is the ruling on marrying a Christian woman who was an adulteress? Is it a condition to stipulate her repentance from past adultery, and does that affect the validity of the marriage?

Chastity is a fundamental condition for the permissibility of marrying a woman from the People of the Book, based on the Almighty's saying: "and the chaste women from those who were given the Scripture before you" (Al-Ma'idah: 5). Ibn Abbas and Al-Sha'bi interpreted this as referring to the chaste woman who does not commit fornication. She must cease from fornication before the marriage contract. However, verifying her chastity is difficult. Therefore, marrying a woman from the People of the Book is disliked, out of fear that she might tempt the husband or raise the children in her false religion, in addition to other concerns such as her consumption of alcohol and pork. It is preferable for a Muslim to marry a righteous Muslim woman.
