Must one who broke the Ramadan fast due to undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment make up the days, knowing that he paid an expiatory fee of feeding a poor person for each day?

It is permissible for a sick person to break their fast in Ramadan if fasting affects them or exacerbates their illness. They must make up for the missed days after recovery. No expiation (fidyah) is obligatory if the illness is one from which recovery is hoped. However, if the illness is one from which recovery is not hoped, then expiation is obligatory by feeding a poor person for each day, the amount being one mudd of food (approximately 750 grams). They are not required to make up the days if Allah grants them recovery later, because they have fulfilled their obligation.
