Wearing a niqab that has no embellishments and no wide openings is permissible, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "A woman in ihram should not wear the niqab nor gloves." This prohibition for a woman in ihram indicates its permissibility outside the state of ihram.
