How authentic is the response of Banu Kinanah to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he offered himself to them, and their saying: "If you wish us to protect you from whoever intends to wrong you, we will protect you, and you will be safe among us, unharmed. But if you wish us to abandon our religion and fight the Arabs for your sake, then this is something that even if our master Ya'mur ibn Awf al-Shaddakh were to call us to it, we would never answer him; for Quraysh are from us and we are from them, and there are ties of kinship, neighborhood, and relations between us and them. So, leave us, O Muhammad, and seek someone else." Then he departed, reciting: "But if they turn away, then upon you is only the بلاغ (conveyance), and upon Us is the reckoning"?

The aforementioned report was exclusively mentioned by a man who is one of the leaders of the Imami Shiites, a sect known for fabrication. No one among the scholars of exegesis, reasons for revelation, biographies, or hadith mentioned it, which makes it a fabricated and unacceptable report. What is well-known in this context is what Al-Bayhaqi and others narrated from Ibn Abbas, from Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding the story of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, presenting himself to the Arab tribes and inviting them to Islam. Some scholars have deemed this hadith good, while others have deemed it weak. As for the Shiite's statement: "So he departed while reciting: (But if they turn away, then upon you is only the notification, and upon Us is the reckoning)" - this is a distortion of the Quranic verses.
