Why does a husband imprison his wife and prevent her from leaving or visiting anyone except under certain conditions, and is this from the religion?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A husband does not have the right to prevent his wife from going out unless she is accompanied by his mother, or to prevent relatives from visiting unless his mother is present. This is an impermissible restriction according to Sharia. The husband must treat his wife with kindness, as Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness." To solve this problem, the wife should be patient and supplicate, and engage in dialogue with her husband to establish sound foundations for their interaction, while taking into account the need to appease the mother if she is overbearing. The husband should help his wife pursue good deeds, such as visiting kin and attending gatherings of knowledge. Caution must be exercised so that frustration does not negatively affect the children, and forgiving the oppressor is better.
