A father must be just among his children in granting gifts. It is not permissible to single out some of them without a valid reason. If the adult, mature children agree to what the father has done, then it is permissible, provided there is an actual transfer of ownership to the recipients of the gift. However, if the writing is merely a way to block others without a genuine transfer of ownership, then it is considered a bequest to an heir, which is invalid unless the other heirs approve it.
