Books of Hadith are numerous, exceeding twenty-three. Among the most important Hadith compilations referred to for understanding the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, are:

The Six Books (Al-Kutub al-Sittah): Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawud, Sunan an-Nasa'i, Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah.

The Nine Books (Al-Kutub at-Tis'ah): The Six Books, in addition to Muwatta' Imam Malik, Musnad Imam Ahmad, and Sunan ad-Darimi.
