Why do Muslim women cover their heads?

Islamic legislation aims to preserve and strengthen marital relations and prevent illicit relations. Thus, it permitted a husband to enjoy his wife and forbade anyone else from enjoying her. For this reason, Islam prohibited a woman from displaying her adornment to anyone other than her husband or mahrams, and commanded her to cover her head and all that is an adornment for her, such as her face and hands, as Almighty Allah says: "And not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof; and to draw their headcovers over their bosoms. And not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers..." (An-Nur: 31). In this way, society preserves honor, chastity, and virtue.
