Is it permissible to show humility to an evildoer, knowing that he might mock you?

Among the ethics of Islam are humility and mutual compassion among Muslims, as in the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah has revealed to me that you should be humble, so that no one boasts over another, nor does anyone transgress against another." As for the dissolute, the disobedient, and the innovator, they should be advised and guided in the best manner, so that their hearts might be guided. If they do not desist from their error, then it is preferable to turn away from them and shun them if there is a benefit in it; because shunning the dissolute revolves around benefit, whether present or absent. So, if the benefit lies in shunning them and asserting superiority over them, then this is better, and if it lies in being humble with them and maintaining ties with them, then this is better.
