The question

Is it considered just for a husband to spend a night with his wife via phone calls or the internet, and another night with his other wife in the same manner, with the first wife alone attending to the daily details of the husband's life, especially if the second wife is in another country and the husband visits her for specific periods, and how can justice be achieved between the two wives in this case, and is the first wife entitled to demand her night when the husband travels to visit the second wife?

The answer

A husband must be just between his wives in terms of overnight stays, whether they are in the same country or different countries, unless one of them relinquishes her right. He must go to the absent wife during her allotted days or have her come to him. If she refuses, despite being able to, her right is forfeited. If they are in two distant countries, he should divide his time between them in periods according to what is feasible, such as a month for each. The obligatory justice is to spend the night with the wife whose turn it is. If the wife agrees to phone calls or internet communication as a substitute for an overnight stay, that is permissible. However, the husband should consider the feelings of the present wife and communicate with the absent wife from another location. It is a wife's right that her husband not be absent from her for more than six months without a valid excuse. Communicating with a fiancée before the marriage contract is not permissible.
