Is it permissible to take zakat in advance, before the completion of the hawl (one year), if its amount is deducted from the value of a building's rent before receiving it in full?

The majority of scholars stipulate that the prerequisite for zakat on newly acquired wealth (al-mal al-mustafad) is the passing of a full year (hawl) on it. However, some imams and Companions are reported to have collected zakat on grants and prizes without stipulating the hawl. Imam Ahmad holds that zakat is obligatory on one who receives rent for his house, provided it reaches the minimum threshold (nisab), without stipulating the hawl.

It is permissible to pay zakat in advance before its due date (hawl). The state's action of collecting zakat in advance is sufficient, and the state's intention stands in place of the payer's intention. Some scholars have explicitly stated that the imam's collection of zakat is sufficient on behalf of its owner, whether it is collected willingly or unwillingly.
