The evidence for this is the action of the Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, who used to collect people's zakat in and say: "This is the month of your zakat. So, whoever owes a debt, let him pay it off, then pay zakat on the remainder of his wealth." Furthermore, Sheikh Ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy on him, issued a permitting the repayment of debts before the completion of the hawl to avoid zakat, emphasizing that there is no harm in doing so.
