Is it permissible to adopt the opinion of those who deem it permissible to shorten and combine prayers when the travel distance is commonly recognized, and to shorten prayers even if the duration of stay is twenty days, for fear of revealing one's conversion to the school of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah?

It is permissible for a traveler to shorten prayers (qasr) if the distance is considered a journey by custom, or if the distance reaches what is considered by the majority of scholars (more than 80 km). Shortening and combining prayers are legislated as soon as one leaves the built-up area of the city.

A traveler who intends to reside in a country for more than four days is considered a resident and must offer full prayers. However, there are other opinions that permit shortening prayers for up to nineteen days, or as long as one has not taken up permanent residence. It is permissible to adopt the less preferred opinion to avoid harm and hardship.
