The minimum duration of menstruation, according to the majority of scholars, is one day and one night. If the blood flow stops in less than that, it is considered istihadah (definition) (non-menstrual bleeding). If the blood you see, along with any yellowish or brownish discharge connected to it, reaches a day and a night, then it is menstruation, and prayer is not permissible during it.
