Is it permissible to shorten and combine prayers and not pray Jumu'ah at the workplace, knowing that the distance between it and home exceeds one thousand kilometers, and that the duration of stay there is two weeks, interspersed with a return home for two weeks alternately?

A traveler is permitted to shorten and combine prayers if the distance exceeds 83 kilometers, and until they reach their destination.

Scholars differed on the duration after which a traveler becomes a resident. Some held that residency is established upon arrival, while others maintained that it is established if one intends to reside for a specific period.

Malikis and Shafi'is: If a traveler intends to reside for four days (excluding the days of entry and departure), they should pray their full prayers.

Hanbalis: A traveler shortens prayers unless they intend to reside for more than four days, or twenty prayers.

Ibn Taymiyyah: A traveler shortens prayers unless they intend absolute residency, citing the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions residing for long periods while shortening prayers.

The most cautious opinion is that of the Malikis and Shafi'is, which states that if a traveler intends to reside for four days, excluding the days of entry and departure, they should pray their full prayers.
