"Khalid ibn al-Walid, the knight of Islam and the Drawn Sword of Allah, loved jihad immensely for the sake of upholding Allah's religion. So much so that nine swords broke in his hand on the Day of Mu'tah. He used to say that a night of battle was more beloved to him than a wedding night. On his deathbed, he wished for martyrdom and donated his weapons and horses for the sake of Allah. His preoccupation with jihad prevented him from extensively reciting and memorizing the Qur'an, but not from reading it altogether. This is not blameworthy; rather, it illuminated Islamic history, for each person is facilitated for what they were created for. Attempts to disparage Khalid's character reflect animosity towards Islam, as he was a sword wielded against its enemies."
