What is the wisdom behind prioritizing exhalation over inhalation in describing the state of the inhabitants of Hellfire in Surat Hud, despite the natural sequence of breathing being inhalation then exhalation?

The letter "waw" (و) does not imply sequence in the Arabic language according to the majority of grammarians. Evidence for this is the Almighty's saying: "we die and we live," for the polytheists do not affirm life after death.

The imams of the Salaf (early Muslims) held that it is more appropriate to mention exhalation (zafir) before inhalation (shaheeq). It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that exhalation is in the throat and inhalation is in the chest, and the throat comes before the chest.

Al-Alusi mentioned that linguists consider exhalation (zafir) to be like the beginning of a donkey's bray, and inhalation (shaheeq) to be like the end of its bray. He cited as evidence the saying of Al-Shammakh: "Far-reaching is the melodic range, the beginning of its sound is an exhalation followed by a rattling inhalation." And presenting the former before the latter is appropriate.
