What are the rulings that result from istiḥāḍah (prolonged vaginal bleeding outside of menstruation)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The rulings for istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) are the same as those for purity (tuhr), but a woman experiencing istihadah differs from a ritually pure woman in three respects:

1. She must perform ablution (wudu') for every prayer after its time has begun.

2. She must wash off traces of blood and insert a barrier, such as cotton or a cloth, when performing ablution.

3. Intercourse is permissible without restriction; it is not like intercourse during menstruation.
