Does charity presented at graves (such as bread, قرص [a type of flatbread], and so forth) benefit the deceased?

What many relatives of the deceased are accustomed to, such as offering bread and cakes on Eids, the fortieth day, and the annual anniversary for the deceased, and hiring someone to recite the Quran at these times, all of that is among the innovated matters for which there is no basis. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever innovates into this affair of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected," and "The worst of affairs are their innovations, and every innovation is a bid'ah (heresy), and every bid'ah is misguidance." And whoever wishes to give charity on behalf of the deceased, let him do so far away from graves and shrines.
